I believe even Ubisoft didn’t got that memo:
Kudgel informs of the latest episode of the perpetual situation comedy known as Ubisoft.
The videogame based on Lost was so terrible that when the company sent it to Sony for approval, they refused, saying "no, your game is too boring and has no gameplay, we don't want it on the Playstation 3." This videogame will beat records at being bad and will bomb really hard.
The next Splinter Cell game has been redone three times over already. Developers just can't seem to include good gameplay in it. That's part of why it got delayed. Same can be said about Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The story was abysmal and it was supposed to be a prequel to Vegas in the early stages of development. Developers then said it made no sense at all, because the first Vegas game finished with a "To Be Continued" screen. They delayed it to work on the story and add some maps.
Far Cry 2 has also been delayed because it was terrible. The game does not look like NEAR what has been shown. Even with the best PC available to the developers, the game just does not match what has been shown so far. Far Cry 2 is both bad and requires one hell of a machine (PC) to run.

| | | elshanks | Jan 6, 9:40am | Hmmm.....trouble creating quality content.....delays....in the VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY?? *gasp*
Do you have ANY idea what is involved in creating these neat little flashy things we call games? Apparently not. Most people who rant and rave all day about how much this sucked, and how much that sucked, fail to understand the sheer ENORMITY of blood, sweat, and tears that go into these games. Every game simply cannot me a sure-fire hit. I feel stupid for having said that, it being so freaking obvious. If it were so easy to do....why aren`t we simply FLOODED with A-list titles? Up to our asses in them??
Anyway....why am i arguing about this? Your post simply reinforces what we are saying in this thread: Assassin`s Creed is an awesome success, flawless in nearly every way. Enjoy it for what it is. Or go play whatever it is that floats ya boat.
Or complain some more about GAMES THAT AREN`T EVEN OUT YET.....
sheesh. |

| olegnep | Jan 6, 10:34am | | i agree , the expectations we have for vidoe games are absurd , you dont understand how hard this stuff is to do until you try to do it yourself , like good ai , or explosions , stuff like that , and then it has to be fine tuned for difficulty and balance . all this different stuff goes it that takes an absurd amount of work to do.keep in mind this is all made from ones and zeros... |

There's a quote, I believe from Shawn Hargreaves, that says "Games aren't programmed anymore, they're drawn."
Games are now largely data-driven rather than code-driven, because C++ isn't very production-friendly. That means pre-made engine, and that means your game is pigeon-holed before you even start.
For every doubling of technological power, art team size and budget increase five times over.
We get the same games over and over,
because nobody wants to take a risk,
because budgets are too high,
because art teams are increasing like there's no tomorrow,
because graphics are in demand, not creativity.
We get the same games over and over,
because engines get perpetually reused until hardware gets better,
because they can't afford time and money to make new ones,
because C++ is the de facto language of AAA engine development,
because raw power is in demand, not creativity. |

Just keep your eye on that blog. The entire blog consists of rumors but unlike GameSpot — or any other “mainstream” site — rumours these rumors most often turn out to be true.
I would react to rest of that piece you’ve written if I felt it was directed at me. Don't get me wrong, it's a great story. I just don't understand why you felt the urge to spill all that right here. One thing tho: The argument don’t hate because games are hard to make is hardly an argument at all. Now if you don’t mind I’m in the middle of a Pikmin game, I want then in there unions before the night falls. Which is pretty soon. |

Ok, i do go on sometimes....
But in the spirit of your response....what compelled you to whip out the tirade on UBI, when all we`re doing here is discussing Assassin`s Creed, hmmmm?? |

It’s Obvious AC was Ubi’s most ambiguous project released last year and was in production for over 3 years. I think it will take a while before worlds like that are the standard in games. In no way it was meant to bash ubi.
17: Personallly I would love that. Sadly Beyond Good & Evil didn't sell all that well, almost not really. I heard that Gamecock’s Insecticide is somewhat similar to Beyond Good & Evil, only the protagonist has more legs. Still, it might be worth checking out. |
